Just like little league

1 Feb

One of the best things about little league baseball:  The post game ice cream.  Well, after a hard-fought victory on Lizard Lanes, Erin and I headed over to Menchie’s with Kevin and Maria.  For how much Erin loves ice cream, I was surprised she hadn’t been.  A fun time, where you have 20 or so flavors of ice cream, combined with about 50 different toppings (everything from sprinkles, to candy, to nuts, to cheesecake and cookie dough bites – not to mention hot fudge, peanut butter sauce… and the list goes on and on).

Team Manute Bowls – Pete Srsen, Erin Srsen, Kevin Pitorak, Maria Cvitkovic.

Beers for the night:

Brewkettle Old 21 (Imperial IPA) – 10 oz snifter – Must be the season for Imperial IPAs.  Heavy floral notes hit first, with citrus finish (similar to the other Imperial IPAs I have had lately).  Not as strong of an alcohol taste, which was nice, considering the 9.5% abv.  Finishes clean and crisp.  Overall score 8/10

Ommegang Abbey (Belgian Dubbel) – 10 oz snifter – The first thing you notice about this beer is the nice orange – brown color (as Ron Burgondy would say “of beautiful rich mahogany”).  Heavy fruit notes hit first, similar to the previous Ommegang Biere D’Hougoumont.  Then a hit of caramel / brown sugar sweetness.  Finishes with a tang of yeast flavor.  Overall very complex beer that is great to sip on and taste the variety of flavors.  Overall score 8/10

Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald Porter (Porter) – 16 oz draft – Rich, dark, robust porter.  First taste is roasted malt.  Through the malt can start to taste hints of coffee and chocolate, like most good porters.  Finishes nice and smooth.  Very drinkable for a porter – and perhaps one of my favorite porters for that reason.  Overall score 8/10.

Looking back at my beer scores, I would say that this was a successful night for drinking.  Not that the Lizard would intentionally put bad beers on the list, but overall a great variety tonight, as all were very enjoyable.
